Job Summary

To provide Production Support (Primary) and Operational Support (Secondary), to Data Center, during contracted hours. Areas of responsibilities to include; (major) Production Support and (minor) Command Center, Tape Library, and Print Room. This position will be primarily responsible for supporting the daily production process and will occasionally assist in other operational areas of the Data Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Support

  • Monitor multiple daily, weekly and monthly production job process/flows.
  • Utilize production software; Roscoe and CA-Scheduler, to control, monitor and adjust production job flows as directed.
  • Utilize Connect Direct (NDM) to monitor successful completion of batch file transfers.
  • Submit production jobs as required, using production software, following documented procedures.
  • Request start-up and stopping of production online CICS's as required.
  • Perform problem determination on failed production processes and take corrective actions as directed.
  • Follow all Production Support procedures and assist in updates/improvements to procedures as required.
  • Escalate all failed production processes immediately, to on-call personnel and management personnel as required.
  • Open problem report using Lotus Notes Problem reporting software and provide all necessary information.
  • Follow on-call personnel directions to affect restart or recovery of failed processes.
  • Document all issues, to include: Process name/number, cause of failure, escalation and recovery process followed.
  • Maintain copy of on-call personnel contact information for various production processes.
  • Attend Production Support turnover meetings at beginning and ending of each shift and provide complete on-coming personnel with complete review of completed, currently running and remaining production processes.
  • Provide written daily turnover report to required personnel.

Non-Essential Functions (Minor)

Command Center

  • Monitor mainframe complex consisting of 8 LPAR’s / Domains.
  • Perform scheduled checks for mainframe software to ensure availability.
  • Perform scheduled checks for Network links using NetView to ensure network availability.
  • Perform scheduled Data Center temperature readings, status checks on air condition units and document status in Command Center log sheet.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot any error conditions or error messages.
  • Take level one corrective action for any network outages and escalate non-recoverable conditions to Network Support.
  • Take level one corrective action for any system outages and escalate non-recoverable conditions to Mainframe Support, Mainframe Engineering or Software Support.
  • Monitor CA-UniCenter monitor for error conditions and escalate Unix Support.
  • Monitor NETIQ monitor for alerts, escalate immediately to RISC on-call, follow established procedure for escalation to management, assist RISC group in problem resolution and follow up contact with all groups after alert has been cleared.
  • Monitor all Mainframe system hardware and support hardware for error conditions, escalate failures to hardware vendor(s), complete hardware failure forms, escalate and / or notify Management and OPS staff.
  • Maintain Data Center security by verifying ID of personnel coming into the Data Center, log names, dates and times and provide escort if required.
  • Perform IPL’s of all mainframe domains, as requested and log start/stop times.
  • Provide First Level troubleshoot for Users and Client with mainframe related issues and document issue and take steps required to correct issue(s).
  • Assist Users and Clients with password issue. Using mainframe software to reset unsuspended and issue new passwords.
  • Assist Users and Clients with LAN/Window access issue. Using LAN software to unlock user ID’s and providing new LAN passwords as necessary.
  • Provide on daily basis, shift turnover reports both orally and written. E-mail copy of each report to entire Operations Staff and Management Team.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized Command Center.

Tape Library

  • Mount tapes on stand-alone drives upon request.
  • Track / log tapes coming in and out of Library.
  • Assist users with tape related issues.
  • Enter / Eject tapes from Silo(s) as required.
  • Create/mount tapes for daily and weekly Lotus Notes server back-ups, to include generation of date labels, cleaning drives, mounting of tapes, completing check-off list, dismounting and filing of tapes after completion.
  • Create/mount tapes for weekly RISC server back-ups, to include generation of date labels, cleaning drives, mounting of tapes, completing check-off list and dismounting of tapes after completion.
  • Create/mount tapes for monthly Citrix server back-ups, to include generation of date labels, cleaning drives, mounting of tapes, completing check-off list, dismounting and filing of tapes after completion.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tape drives, trouble-shoot drive issues and report hardware failures to vendor(s) and follow-up to ensure repairs are completed.
  • Replace deleted cleaning cartridges and perform general troubleshooting on STK Silo(s). Respond to error conditions.
  • Prepare daily Tape Library written / oral turnover report to Operations staff and Management.
  • Maintain security of Tape Library, to include proper handling of data tapes, verifying users picking up tapes and degaussing classified data tapes and hard drives.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized Tape Library.

Print Room

  • As required, operate printers to include, 2 IBM Info Print, 2 HP9000’s and 1 IBM 4245 impact printer.
  • Separate and distribute reports for users and production support staff.
  • Restock printer paper / supplies and assist in maintaining proper paper / supplies by recording supply usage and informing management of paper / supply inventory.
  • Install maintenance kits in the HP9000’s printers as required.
  • Perform general maintenance and troubleshooting on all printers as required.
  • Maintain all printer part and maintenance logs.
  • Generate Lotus Notes problem reports related to Print Room issues and follow-up to ensure problem is resolved and problem report is updated and closed.
  • Prepare daily Print Room written / oral turnover report to Operations staff and Management.
  • Maintain security of Print Room, to include proper handling of reports, verifying users and report pick-up and shredding of classified reports.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized Print Room.

Experience

  • 3 – 5 years MVS/JES2/JCL Mainframe Production environment experience.
  • Good understanding mainframe operations.
  • Mainframe software - MVS, JES2 TSO
  • Production software - JCL, Roscoe, CA-Scheduler, Connect Direct (NDM).
